From Sat 10 October 2015 to Mon 12 October 2015
Year 6 pupils from Greatwood Primary School in Skipton have worked with illustrator and puppeteer Vanessa Card to create art on the theme of ‘Champions’. The work, now on display at Craven Museum & Gallery, took inspiration from Skipton Library’s summer reading challenge, Record Breakers, and was developed in collaboration with local children’s charity, Skipton Extended Learning for All (SELFA).
The young people have been involved in everything. They selected the work on display; hung the pictures, photographs, and display boards; chose champion-themed background music; designed the publicity; chose the refreshments and took part in Skipton Academy’s assembly to promote the exhibition.
One budding artist said: “This project has been awesome” and another year 6 girl said: “I’ve had so much fun and I’ve learn to draw.”
Champions Art Exhibition is a joint initiative between Craven Museum & Gallery, Skipton Extended Learning for All (SELFA), Skipton Library and Greatwood Primary School and has been funded by the Arts Council England Museum’s Resilience Fund.
Following the special exhibition at Craven Museum & Gallery the artwork will be on display at Skipton Library.
