Victorian Skipton

In this session the class is split into three groups and each group rotates around the different activities so that all the children get the chance to do all the activities.

The activities include looking at the different lives of children in Victorian Skipton through the real life characters:

  • Richard Oldfield – a ‘doffer’ in the cotton mill
  • Elizabeth Sidgwick the mill-owner’s daughter.

Through these two real Skipton residents there will be the chance to examine items used in the home, shopping and services in a Victorian town.

There will also be a mixture of replica and real handling items to discover toys, costume and working life.
